Its proving to be a great season for tope fishing off Ilfracombe aboard Dan Hawkin’s Reel Deal with fish to over forty pounds putting healthy curves in anglers rods!
Ilfracombe shore and boat sport – Summer Sun Fishing
Hot sun and crystal clear water is not ideal for all species but one fish that will feed well in these conditions is the ballan wrasse that can be caught using king ragworm, crab or prawn. Ollie Passmore landed these two colourful specimens to just over 3lb at a mark near Ilfracombe.
The calm waters are also brilliant for boat anglers with plenty of tope being caught off Ilfracombe on Charter boats and on Private boats. Toby Bassett caught this fine tope of 33lb from his own boat a cracking photo as well!
Shark and tope on Reel Deal
Anglers have been enjoying some fine summer sport on Reel Deal off Ilfracombe with blue shark, Porbeagle Shark, tope and bull huss. The exceptionally hot calm weather has been excellent news for charter boats who often loose large numbers of trip to inclement weather.
Fine Boat Sport in settled weather
Stef Jones and Matt Druce enjoyed some fine sport over the weekend in Bideford Bay and beyond landing tope to 35lb and spurdog to 16lb 2oz along with bull huss.

FIFTY TWO POUND TOPE ON REEL DEAL
(Above) Justin Goodhine from Bristol boated this specimen tope of 52lb whilst fishing off Ilfracombe aboard Dan Hawkins Boat “Reel Deal”.
The fish was tempted using Ammo frozen mackerel.
Big Solo tope
Kevin Pike fished from his own Private Boat to land this fine specimen tope of 47lb 8oz. The fish was boated in a fine solo effort.

Anglers are enjoying good boat sport off Ilfracombe with tope. Paul Lorrimore and Troy Laing were amongst anglers on Reel Deal to enjoy a day with these hard fighting members of the shark family.

Summer tope on the way
Dan Hawkins ventured out near Lundy Island on with a party of anglers and they enjoyed success with the first tope of season along with bull huss, pollock, coalfish, whiting and the inevitable dogfish.They also enjoyed the spectacle of dolphins, porpoises and seals. Dan skipper of Reel Deal commented that such days make his job so enjoyable.
