Melbury Reservoir is in fine form producing a number of quality carp.
(Above) Ashley Bunning banked nine carp to 23lb 8oz using Nashbait Scopex Squid fluro pop ups or 20mm wafters over 18mm freebies.
(above) Mervyn Beal banked this fine mirror of 19Ib 8oz. Merv also had a 16Ib mirror and a 10Ib common all caught on Nash Scopex Squid boilies.
Neil Harvey has had a cracking couple of sessions at Melbury. 15 Carp in the first session (4 x 20’s) and 14 Carp in the second session (2 x 20’s).
(Below) Mervyn Beal recently had this cracking 10 fish haul from Upper Tamar which included three 20’s to 22lb 8oz. All fish fell to Nash Scopex Squid.
Melbury Reservoir results – 24/06/18
Winner on the day was Normam “paul” Martin who caught skimmers (mainly) and roach on the tip, placing 29lb 2oz on the scales.
2nd was Kevin Wilton who had 17lb 12oz on the pole.
3rd overall was Dean Vickery with 16lb 9oz on the pole.
Steve Gliddon had an impressive few hours fishing at Melbury reservoir near Bideford in Devon. After work he managed 4 carp with a ghost common in low double figures, 18l10oz common, 19lb 8oz mirror and a new surface caught PB mirror at 20lb 5oz. .
(Below )George West has been catching plenty of carp from Upper Tamar recently with these stunning fish being the best of the bunch. George caught the much sought after Linear at around 25.00 which was stocked in 2017. He has also had a cracking old mirror at 24lb12oz, a two tone chunky common at around 21lb and a fully scaled mirror at 21lb Fantastic rewards, well done George…..
(Below)Steve Gliddon has been among the action at Melbury reservoir near Bideford, Devon. Steve landed a new PB for the water, a 23.10 common along with a long hard fighting 15.08 common that wiped all his rods out and a surface caught common of 12.02. wafters fished over a good scattering of boilies did the trick for Steve.
A quick overnight session for Aaron Jones at the weekend on Melbury produced two cracking 20lb mirrors. Aaron’s pre-baiting and persistence on the venue has paid off in the shape of this 20.08 mirror and a linear of 20.02 which is on the matt. Driving hail and rain didn’t deter Aaron so credit to him given the conditions to catch. He had this to say ‘After 3 weeks of pre baiting I had 2 carp, the first was still in the net while I re-cast to the baited spot then again it went steaming off!’ well done Aaron – top stuff.
Ashley Bunning has been hauling in some superb carp at Melbury reservoir recently with seven carp to 26lb 2oz. All fish fell to a snowman with Burton Bait Rollers new test bait with a Scopex pop up. Ashley put about 30 freebies on each spot of the new test bait and ‘Magnet’. And also used Lakebed Leads 4oz distance leads. Ultima XR 14lb main line with Entity hook lengths.
Jamie Rusling has been in the action at Melbury Reservoir, near Bideford, with some cracking fish. Jamie managed 4 fish on a surface fishing session with the largest being a cracking 26.08 common backed up by a scaley 17lb mirror. Jamie returned a couple days later to bank three more fish at 23lb, 19lb and a Ghost carp of 14lbs.
Tony Welch visited Melbury very recently and sent in this catch report to South West Lakes Trust:
‘On my latest trip fishing the Devon South West Lakes Trust waters I decided to head to Melbury Reservoir. I spent two nights on the picturesque lake and struggled on the first night fishing in horrendous rain. After a change in the weather and also a change of tactics I managed 6 takes over the last 18hrs catching a number of nice commons to 19lb 5oz using Mainline Baits Essential Cell with home made Mainline Polaris hook baits over the top. “Melbury is another gem in the Southwest Lakes Trust portfolio, a very enjoyable trip!’
Melbury Reservoir is situated between Bideford and Bradworthy and contains some fine carp along with a good head of other coarse species. During the late eighties and early nineties it produced several specimen perch over four pounds along with eels close to 5lb and brown trout of over 5lb.
Rich Shaw paid a recent visit to Melbury Reservoir with a relative on a visit from Norway.This his account of the successful session.
“Weather was rather wet but the general fishing was exceptional plenty of good Roach,
Skimmers and Bream on the float and feeder. I managed the one carp that’s
weight certainly didn’t do justice to its frame, a touch over 19llb and
lovely condition a credit to any fishery. A lot of bait manipulating went
on between downpours but this one tripped up on two 10mm Crave Squabs and a
Bloodworm and Maggot crush.
