The flyfishing season is off to a promising start at the Arundell..
After one of the wettest winters on record, penty of wild brown trout are being caught, and unsurprisingly with high water, the smaller tributaries have fished the best. In the high flows, nymph fishing has been the most productive, but increasing fly hatches are now bringing fish up to take dry flies. We expect the Mayflies to peak by the end of May, with Black Gnats and several species of Olives all bringing fish to the surface for the very best of the fishing. The river valleys are absolutely at their best, with fresh green leaves clothing the trees, dippers chirping from midstream boulders, and all is so very right with the world.

A few early sea trout have already been taken by rods further down the Tamar, and will be expected up with us in the next few weeks. A couple of salmon have also been hooked but not landed by rods lower downstream, and with good water levels we expect to see a fresh fish in our beats any time soon.
Evening Fishing
With the longer summer days, evening fishing is becoming an attractive proposition, when there will be falls of olive spinners and hatches of sedge flies, to get the trout rising long into the dusk.
