Upper Tamar Charity Pairs Match

Below is a letter I received from Melissa Thomas North DEvon Angling News is always pleased to promote angling related good causes.

I am in the process of promoting Hft’s first charity Fishing Competition, taking place on the 12th- 13th August at Upper Tamar Lake near Launceston. I understand you probably receive a lot of requests for free publicity – and cannot support them all – nevertheless, if you are able to include the attached press release and/or a poster in one of your forthcoming issues/online we would be extremely appreciative.

Hft is a national charity supporting more than 2,500 adults with learning disabilities across England to live the best life possible. Our services range from supported living to residential care – from a few hours a week to 24 hours a day – and we support people with a range of needs, challenging behaviours and specific syndromes like autism spectrum disorders and down’s syndrome. Hft also helps people with learning disabilities to take part in daily activities, make friends and develop relationships, find work, and gain independence. You can find out more about our work on our website: <http://hft.org.uk/Stories/>

A lot of our core work is reliant on voluntary donations, so we organise a series of fundraising events across the year to help support this work. The Carp Open Pairs competition is just one of these events, and is raising money to support the services and facilities at Chy Keres short stay and respite centre in Tregadillet, Cornwall.

It would be hugely beneficial to have some advertising and/or coverage of our charity fishing competition – as it will enable us to: get more people registered to participate and, therein, to raise more money to support our key services at Chy Keres. In return we would be happy to mention you in any online publicity and, of course, would love to have you come along to the event itself. I would also be very happy to show you around Chy Keres if you would like to find out more about the support we provide, or would like to find out more about what we are fundraising for. Please let me know if you have any other ideas that you would like to explore.

Thanks so much for your time and please do let me know if you have any questions or would like more information.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks and best wishes,

Seasons through the lens

Steve Pinn spends many hours fishing for carp mostly at Stafford Moor and he combines his fishing with his love of photography. I asked Steve if he would put a few words together and share some of his stunning images. These illustrate the real joy of fishing and carp fishing in particular where the angler is within the environment letting the seasons and days roll by  observing each changing mood as the world revolves.

Through the lens by the Steve Pinn the BIvvy Tramp!

When “bivvy’d up” for several nights in the heart of the beautiful Devon countryside, I’ve always said that catching a fish is a bonus. Carp fishing is a waiting game, one that can keep you awake all hours but one that allows you to see and hear things that not everyone is privileged enough to witness. Magenta sunrises, sunsets, cloud formations, changing seasons and all manner of natural splendor never fail to delight and, for me, capturing those moments is just as important as the ‘trophy carp shot’. You really don’t need the best camera in the world, I use my iPhone just as much as my Canon SLR, but to not record more than just your latest catch when you are surrounded by such a visual feast would, to me, be a tragedy. Get snapping, you won’t regret it.

THE 1ST WINNER FOR FISH OF THE WEEK 2017 IS…

Craig Fisher who smashed his Personal Best with a 46lb 2oz Mirror from the Kracking Carp Lake!!

Craig’s Story –

“I decided to give the Kracking a go, hoping to catch one of the big carp and land a personal best! After seeing fish around the island, I decided to move up the other end of the lake. I cast out a foot from the island and just 15 minutes later it went off!

I couldn’t believe my luck – a whopping new personal best! A great start to a fantastic week. I celebrated well in the Bar after the Wine and Dine Night that’s for sure and even won the raffle twice!! A fishing moment I will never forget!”

Craig used a snowman rig with triple-n boilie topped with milky toffee pop-up.

Craig’s luck didn’t stop there either! He also caught a Personal Best Catfish from the Specimen Cat Lake 37lbs 12oz!! Caught on a halibut boilie topped with pink stink pop-up.
WELL DONE CRAIG!! GREAT 1ST FISH OF THE WEEK FOR 2017!!

Here he is with his Winning Fish and being presented his prizes by Zyggy and Zenia.
