Bideford Triumph in Inter-club Match

Bideford’s Coarse Section travelled to Plymouth Coarse Angling Club’s lakes at Cadover on Bodmin , for the first leg of the inter club event. Bideford came out on top with a total weight of 103lb 15oz to PDCAC 76lb 10oz . The comp was fished in great spirits and super autumn weather, several large carp were landed and a few more lost, although top individual was an all roach net of 33lb 2oz for Martin Turner 2nd was Ronnie Moore with a 2 carp net plus silvers for 25lb 15oz , Rober Rand landed an 18lb carp plus some silvers for 24lb 14oz and 3rd , 4th place with 3 skimmer bream and 2 carp was Colin Gorman with 24lb 4oz. We look forward to hosting PDCAC in the return leg on September 29th at Tarka Swims.

1st Steve Bailey 42lb 5oz

2nd Colin Gorman  34lb 15oz

Silver winner  Richard Jefferies  8lb 8oz .

Todays match was fished by 15 competitors, in heavy rain showers, Steve drew on peg P. ,which was the golden peg on the day and therefore added a bonus £50 to his winnings. He fished into the dense weedbed and managed to extract some big carp on the pole on pellets and corn. Colin Gorman who finished in second spot, drew on the opposite corner on peg L, he has fished a method feeder with banded robin red pellets for 7 good carp, Junior member Tyler Scott who drew on peg K did very well to land 2 large carp on the pole for third place,  Martin Turner fished the straight lead to land 4 carp on peg I for fourth place. The Silvers prize went to Richard Jefferies with a feeder caught net of skimmer bream from peg R. The overall standings with 4 matches remaining Martin Tuner 88 John Lisle 70 Steve Bailey 59

Adam Wheeler Wins Three Match Junior Series – Bideford Angling Club

Congratulations go to Bideford angling Club for organising a series of Junior Angling Matches on their home water Tarka Swims. The future of angling rests with these young people who will hopefully embrace a pastime that will bring a lifetime of enjoyment. Many thanks to Martin Turner for the report.

Ruari has fished with maggots on peg P for a nice bag of bream. Will, on the next peg, fished with a ledgered pellet and caught a lovely mirror carp for second place. Brooke fished with a feeder and landed a fine bream for third on peg R. 11 different young anglers have fished the, closely contested, 3 match series and Adam Wheeler has come out winner of the Junior Cup,with a points total of 30 ,in 2nd spot Tyler Scott on 29, 3rd Brooke Copp on 28, 4th Ruari Hewitt 24 5th Tomas Scott 22. Final Midweek Comp Tarka Swims & Junior Event

Summer is passing by all too quickly  and Bideford’s Evening League coming to an end is an indication of this. I have enjoyed receiving weekly updates from Martin Turner on this and must thank him for all the reports and images. Its also good to see the Junior events being well supported.

Another warm summer evening was enjoyed by our members.Ian landed 3 large carp on the pole on float fished caster on peg U for top weight on the night and in the series, Ian finished the league in joint 4th place. Martin’s second place was secured with 2 carp and some skimmers on peg Q , this ensured that he retained the overall league title with 85 points, Cavan landed a single carp of 13lb 15oz on peg I for 3rd spot.

The decision to use the deeper pegs ,for our second Junior event, proved right, as some nice bags of fish were landed by our enthusiastic younger members.Adam was top weight with a lovely net of skimmer bream caught on the pole on red maggots of peg P. Second ,on the next peg Q, was younger of the Scott brothers ,Tom with a similar bag taken on a 4mtr. whip. In 3rd place on peg N was Tyler with another bream net taken on the long pole, Back up weights were roach and perch Brooke, unluckily, lost a winning carp after a 10 min battle on a whip.The 3 hour event was fished in blazing sunny conditions.The current league table ,with , one match remaining is a dead heat for 1st spot, on 21 points, between Adam  Tom ,and Tyler. Another weekend of scorching temperatures saw some good sport , Martin Turner landed 17lb of bream and 4 carp for a winning total on favoured peg I , he caught on pellet waggler and long pole shallow with maggot. John had a good bream and a carp on peg Q for second , club secretary Steve landed a nice net of small bream and one carp off peg S for third , fourth spot was filled by Ian who lost several carp but landed 2 on bread from peg X. Keith’s all bream net won the silvers pot.The halftime icecreams from Reg Sutton were most welcome ! Due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ the evening match on Wednesday will be postponed and re fished on the evening of the 1st August.

Bideford Host Junior Fishing Event

Bideford Angling Club hosted the first of three Junior Events at their Tarka Swims Lake. many Thanks to Martin Turner for his report below and for his efforts in introducing a future generation to angling. Further events take place on July 21st and August 4th.

This afternoons junior event took place at Tarka Swims in hot conditions. Rory took the honours with 2lb 14oz of roach and perch on peg D,joint second Tyler and his French exchange student Martin both on 2lb, joint fourth went to Brooke and Thomas, on 1lb 14oz ,nets in this 3 hour event were mainly made up with roach perch and rudd .Thank you to Summerlands Tackle for providing the prizes and bait.

Midweek Series No.8 Tarka Swims results

1st Keith Copland 20lb 5oz

2nd Stephen Craker 13lb 7oz

12 anglers fished this match, conditions were a little cooler than of late and the carp were a bit more obliging , for some ! Keith drew the corner peg L and lost the first tussle with the beasts in the weed , but managed to extract the next two for just short of 20lbs ,both took maggots fished on the pole. Stephen had the early lead with a good carp from peg U plus some tench and skimmers ,but came in second . Pete drew on peg I and found a late carp on luncheon meat plus some skimmers for third . Ron also fished with meat on peg M for 4th spot.

13 anglers fished in warm, still conditions . Ian Owen has drew on peg S and fished the pole over groundbait to land 2 carp and a good net of bream. This was Ian’s first victory on Tarka . Pete had a good carp of 12lb, after an hour, on bread flake to secure second spot of peg U. Stephen fished on peg B with worm, he lost 2 carp, but landed one for third.
