PROMOTING NORTH DEVON ANGLING
Just got back from an interesting day filming along the North Devon Coast with Wiseman Productions and Libby Ross one of our local Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority Officers. The video is part of The FishTrail project for The West Country Rivers Trust and IFCA. It is funded by E.U COSME to promote Inter European Angling Tourism and promote conservation minded angling. Part of the project is also the building of a fish planner website to give a clear summary of legislation that relates to angling.
I must give special thanks to local anglers and fishing mates Kevin Legge, Callum Gove and James Hunter who joined me with some success in the hunt for fish. I will share the video on this site when it is released.
Callum managed this mullet half an hour after filming ceased; I think that what they call sods law!
BLAKEWELL IN TOP AUTUMN FORM
Cooler water suits the trout far better than the warmth of summer making fishing at still waters such as Blakewell a joy. A real tonic for the salmon or sea trout angler whose fishing is now but a memory until next spring.
Ian Patch travelled from Weston- Super- Mare to fish at Blakewell and his journey was well worth the effort. Ian ended his day with a four fish bag including fish of 13lb 2oz, 4lb 10oz, 4lb 10oz and 4lb 2oz.
Richard Banks from Ilfracombe landed a fine rainbow of 13lb 2oz in a bag that totalled 26lb.
Fast growth rate at Stafford Moor
Nick Galley landed three fine mirror carp the biggest equaling his personal best at 22:08. The the carp with a distinctive black spot on its shoulder was landed by Nick’s brother Brandon at the end of July at 19:06 so an excellent 3lb growth rate in just under 3 months.
The other two carp scaled 21lb and 20lb. The fish were all caught from the inlet swim and their on their own black magic bait and Gardner end tackle.
WIMBLEBALL REPORT AS SEASON FADES
Please find the latest catch report for Wimbleball from Danny Ford. Plenty of fish showing in the narrows from the old pontoons down to Bessoms. They are holding off the weed bank 10 yards out. Anglers have been doing well with nymph patterns, Diawl Bach in particular, fisher either on a midge tip or intermediate.
The fish off for the Orvis Boat Pairs was held on Sunday, Steve Ebdon, and Andy Gooding taking 1st place with Pete Kempton and Phil Sharpe runners up. Steve and Andy won a season ticket for 2017 while Pete and Phil take home a lovely Orvis access reel and a £50 gift voucher. Both boats chose to fish the top end of the lake, with Steve and Andy doing particularly well drifting from the old pontoons to the bouy in Bessoms. Well done!
Wimbleball hosted their final competition of the year on Saturday, 4 Anglers attended the boat comp which ran from 10-4.30pm. 18 rainbows were caught with a return of 4.5 per angler!
1st Danny Ford 6 fish for 8lb 1oz
2nd Ed Trickett 5 fish for 7lb 4oz
3rd Dave Ridgway 4 fish for 6lb 1oz
4th Howard James 3 fish for 5lb 9oz

GONE FISHING – MATCH REPORT
Match Report No 3
Date: 12-10-2016
Venue: High Hampton Lake 2
Match number three was at the fine venue of High Hampton although it was a strange one as it was on lake 2 which is a lake that fishermen never fish.
It was well under way and with an early push from Mathew Cross who in the first two hours had netted 10 carp, this was much to the surprise of other anglers as they were sitting staring in amazement and wondering what was happening.
Until Thomas Owen had a surge and caught four Carp back to back, a great effort from Tom on the day who won Man off the match as he has transferred over from Carp tackle to pole fishing and showed he was improving weekly.
John Lovell also started to catch, having caught some nice skimmers and a fair size bream on the feeder, we also saw last weeks winner netting some nice carp in an attempt to catch up with Cross who was now standing still as his swim had died
Other fisherman on the lake had also been catching and a wide size and variety of fish was being caught to make the match a close one, Cross had obviously capitalized on that early lead and wasn’t to be caught.

Late Season – Smoothound
Combe Martin SAC member Ian Laird – 9lb 15oz smoothound
Smoothound have been a regular feature of sea angling catches during the autumn months in recent seasons with hounds landed right through into December. This could be a result of numerous factors including climate change? It is however difficult to speculate. Trigger fish became common for several seasons and this was seen as a clear sign of global warming; they have been virtually non existent this year though?
