Dan Spearman has enjoyed recent success with grey mullet banking thin lips of 4lb 15oz , 4lb 15oz, 4lb 10oz and 4lb 7oz. He also tempted a thick lip of 4lb 1oz.
Fellow Combe Martin SAC member Graham Snow has also enjoyed success with thin lips landing fish of 4lb 7oz and 4lb 9.5oz.
Combe Martin SAC member Ross Stanway continues to seek out bass with lures intent of maintaining his lead in the clubs lure fishing competition sponsored by Ilfracombe’s High Street Tackle. He tells me the lure fishing has slowed down in recent days. I suspect the bass are feasting on spider crab or mackerel off-shore. Ross also enjoyed success with his family landing a 3lb wrasse whilst son Charlie enjoyed success with pollock and smelt. The below bass was 49cm.

22 fished. Conditions were very hot and still, Colin has won consecutive monthly matches this time on peg 26 fishing the pole for a good net of carp. Martin’s second place came off peg 12 fishing shallow with sloppy groundbait for a small fish net, Kevin’s found better bream and skimmers on the pole on for third off peg 8. Les continues his run with another pole caught bag from peg 11.
Stuart Taylor caught a fine 10lb 2oz bass from a North Devon shore mark and registered the fish at Summerlands Tackle shop, Westward Ho ! . Stuart had already had a photo on the shop wall with a bass caught in his whilst in his twenties. Heather at Summerlands said “it was nice to have another photo to put up… If you are keeping a bass to eat and it is photo worthy we would love to see it and photo you with it…”
Combe Martin SAC member Daniel Welch has been enjoying some great summer sport from both boat and shore. Fishing from his private boat he has boated several tope to forty pounds along with some quality Huss. He also scaled down to apply a little more finesse tempted a thick lipped grey mullet of 4lb.

The Oaktree catfish was first caught back in the late 90’s and I received this fascinating account of this first capture from Andy Sanders.
I’ve just been reading the article about the oak tree catfish and found this photo for u. I was the first person to catch the catfish way back in the late 90s at a weight of 17lb. I was fishing with friends and had a drop back at 6.30 in the morning. I was yelling to my friends that I’d caught the catfish but neither belived me and would not come out their bivvies. I caught it on a cranberry boilie. Hope this is of interest. Andy.
