63lb net wins top spot in the prestigious
South Devon’s highly regarded coarse fishing destination, Cofton Holidays, has crowned Andy Everill as winner of its spring Cofton Cup Fishing competition.
A keen fisherman, this is Andy’s third title at Cofton having previously won Cofton Cup II and Cofton Cup V. The multi award-winning holiday park, hosted the sixth competition on its Mamhead Match Lake over five days of intensive fishing. The field was narrowed down from 36 anglers in the opening rounds to 14 in the final, with the remainder battling it out for the Plate competition.
Competing against 14 experienced anglers, Andy Everill scooped the Cofton Cup and £500 in the final with a total of 63.02lb from Peg 25. Andy also walked away with the prize for the heaviest fish of the week; during his qualifying heat on day three, Andy landed a carp weighing in at a whopping 11.03lb, earning him another £50.
Runner-up, Steve Bond, achieved a total haul of 49.04lb from Peg 22, earning him £250. Previous Cofton Cup winner Bob Rand at Peg 10 earned £150 in third place with a net of 43.10lb.
In the Plate competition, Nigel Stanley came out on top with a catch of 39.06lb from Peg 14, earning him Plate Champion and £100. Dave Walton came in 2nd with his 35lb net from Peg 26 earning him £50, and Craig Smith came 3rd and won a £50 meal voucher with his 32.03lb net from Peg 25.
The competition was fierce and was made even more challenging by the wet and windy weather conditions. The event saw three qualifiers take place over the course of the week, culminating in Friday’s grand final:

Using pegs 4 to 11 the junior event produced some great catches, in this , the third match of the series. Top weight on the day was youngster Charlie with a lovely double figure net of skimmers and tench ( and terch! ) on peg 7 in the 3 hour competition . Prizes were kindly donated by BaitTech and Summerlands.

Quay Sports fishing tackle store require an enthusiastic and keen angler with an all-round knowledge of carp, coarse, match, sea & game fishing. Our busy Barnstaple based store needs another team member to help with daily tasks such as serving customers, offering guidance to customers, re-stocking and managing inventory, entering products onto a database, and various other store related jobs.
A good knowledge of angling is essential as we would expect the successful applicant to be able to offer advice to the customers on all aspects of angling.
Previous customer facing experience and I.T experience would also be advantageous.
We are looking for someone that has an approachable and cheerful character to fit in with our established and well harmonised team.
This is a permanent full time position with 28 days paid leave per annum.

20 fished on another fine summer evening on Georges lake , Mike on, peg 10, has landed a terrific bag of bream in the 3hour contest to secure his second win in the series. His short pole worm approach seems to find the quality silver fish. Elsewhere carp have put in an appearance, Craig’s 2nd place net off peg 15 consisted 4 decent carp on meat, just pipping Graham’s method feeder carp catch on peg 6. Over half the field have weighed in double figure catches. With 3 matches remaining Nathan clings on to the lead 74 points to Steve Johnson 73 , and Martin Turner on 70.

QUAY SPORTS – Opened on Saturday, June,26th with its staff greeting over 100 customers.
I called into the newly opened Quay Sports conveniently located on the Roundswell Industrial Estate close to Lidl’s and Sainsbury’s. To find an extensive range of tackle to cater for all disciplines and levels of expertise. The company has already established a strong online presence with its Roddarch Tackle label and is expanding to offer an over the counter service for local anglers. Owner Mark Potter is supported by store manager Chris Connaughton who is well known on the local carp scene. Nick Cole is a keen sea angler. Local companies like Lakebed Leads are well represented along with many mainstream brands. One of the benefits of a tackle shop is the increased interaction between anglers with rigs, tactics and locations often hot topics. There is also the advantage of being able to see and handle the available tackle before purchasing.
The shop offers a discount to all blue light emergency service workers. They also produce a guide to fishing for beginners at a cost of 50p with all proceeds going to the Children’s Hospice.
MAINLINE CARP COMPETITION RESULT – UPPER TAMAR
South West Lakes Trust hosted Mainline Baits Upper Tamar Carp Open Pairs Match with the £2000 first prize taken by John Kierle and Sam Fowler who banked nine carp for a total weight of 117lb. In runner up spot were Karl Yates and Allan Jones with four carp for 56lb 5oz winning £1000 and in third David Bellew and Josh Bellew with four carp for 51lb 15oz receiving £500.
