Amy Maunder and John Kneebone had a cracking 48 hour session on Lower Tamar recently landing 15 fish to just under 20lbs. All caught on Mainline cell boilies. Amy returned again and added another 7 fish in the next trip!
Focus Group on Special Places on the Northern Devon Coast
I am posting this information on North Devon Angling News as anglers are important stakeholders in regards to the North Devon Coast and most have a deep appreciation for its beauty and natural diversity.
Focus Group on Special Places on the Northern Devon Coast
Local residents in Northern Devon are invited to take part in a Focus Group about Special Places on the Northern Devon Coast. The focus group is part of a wider study, being undertaken by Collingwood Environmental Planning (CEP) and ABPmer, on behalf of the Marine Management Organisation (MMO).
The focus group will be held in Barnstaple on Thursday 6th June 2019 at 7pm.
The purpose of the focus group is to gather feedback from local residents (adults aged 18 or over) on their experiences and perceptions of places on the Northern Devon coast which they consider to be special and to explore the reasons why. This information will be used to help the Marine Maritime Organisation (MMO) to understand how coastal views contribute to enjoyment of the coast so they can consider this in future planning and projects.
The focus group will last a total of 2 hours, and light refreshments will be available. As a thank you, a £50 cash incentive will be provided to participants upon completion of the session.

Pledge for Nature!
Hello North Devon Angling News
I’m a keen freshwater and sea angler, and also passionate about nature.
The North Devon UNESCO Biosphere is launching a Crowdfunder https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/nature-needs-you to raise funds for a ground-breaking local initiative called Pledge for Nature! – to engage north Devon’s communities in nature’s recovery. We are extremely concerned by rapid declines in the quality of some habitats and populations of some of our key species like breeding cuckoos, lapwings and curlews in our farmland, salmon, sea trout and freshwater pearl mussels in the Taw and Torridge river systems, and even commoner species like hedgehogs, swallows and house martins, wildflowers and insects.
Nature needs more space and wilder areas to thrive. Pledge for Nature! aims to engage citizens and particularly farmers across north Devon in practical actions to tackle the damaging effect that decades of development and intensive land use have had on North Devon’s precious ecosystems. Their actions will help to boost wildflowers, insects and birds in farmland, gardens and greenspaces, plant trees and woodlands, and improve our rivers.
We are asking the National Lottery Heritage Fund to cover the majority of the coordination costs (and have passed the first round in the application process), but we urgently need to raise at least £10,000 as match funding to demonstrate to them that our community cares. Anglers are a really important group to help address some of these problems, and many are already very active (eg I’m a member of the Taw Fishing Club which is doing lots of habitat work).
I’d be really grateful if you could share the link to the crowd-funder site through the North Devon Angling website and social media and help spread the word in any way you can to friends and colleagues. I also attach a poster that can be printed and put up in community centres etc..

Dillon Buttle banked a Couple of fish from swim 4 (The Gap) on lodge lake up to 23lb caught on Sticky Baits Krill bottom Baits surrounded by a Pva big with krill pellets.
(Below)Joe Heidstrom banked 23 fish out from the back bays on Beatties lake including a fabulous ghostie which was caught in the right hand margin all caught on dynamite baits red ammo 20mm.

Stafford Moor May Festival
Friday 17th May was the final of our May Festival 2019, what a fabulous week it had been. The weights were great all week and all the competitors said what a great week they had at the Moor. The weather was kind all week except for Friday when there was some rain but not enough to dampen spirits. The festival ran from Monday 13th until Friday 17th May.
The worthy winner was Gareth Lennox (Stafford Moor) who won with just 5 points and a total weight of 435lb 3oz.
Gareth had 2 points on Monday , 1 point on Tuesday, 1 point on Wednesday, 2 points on Thursday and 1 point on Friday so with his dropper of 2 points Gareth ending up scoring just 5 points. Gareth mainly fished worms over pellet all week.
In second place with a total weight of 429lb 2oz with 6 points was Damien Green
In third place with a total weight of 415lb 11oz with 6 points is Chris Cameron ( bait tech / middy)
Jennets Brace of Twenties
After no action at his syndicate lake overnight Chris Connaughton Mono had a hunch that a change of venue could pay dividends. A trip to Jennets for the afternoon produced a brace of 20s at 24lb and 20lb 4oz. The fish were tempted using monster baits presented on j precision hooks and 4oz Flat pear inline leads supplied by local tackle company Lakebed Leads.

PB CATFISH FROM THE MAIN CARP LAKE
Ben McDonnell, 27 from Kent caught a personal best 67lb 13oz Catfish from the Main Carp Lake.
Ben caught the catfish on a casual carpers 15mm spiced krill boillie topped with a 12mm spiced krill pop up, it smashed his old PB of 19lb 1oz by 48lb 12oz!!
(below) Alan George, 49 from Wales caught his 1st ever ‘30’ from the Main Carp Lake, a stunning 30lb 8oz Mirror winning him our Fish Of The Week competition.
Alan shared –
“After arriving at Anglers Paradise on the Saturday afternoon, we enjoyed a few drinks with our friends before venturing down to the Main Lake to take advantage of the peace and quiet as a 5c’s member. I decided to do a bit of stalking on the surface free lining bread. It wasn’t long before I spotted a few in one of the back bays, soaking up the sun. I flicked out a single piece of bread and it wasn’t long before a carp slipped up and took the bait!
After a short hard battle through the pads, my good friend Mick Pearson did the honours of netting the fish and couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw what was in there.
The mirror carp weighed in at 30lb 8oz and was a new PB and my first 30lb plus carp. Not bad for the 1st cast of the holiday!”
(Below)Ben Gregory caught a personal best 5lb 8oz Golden Tench from the Specimen Tench and Orfe Lake. Ben shared – “I’d already had quite a good day on the lake having had 13 Tench and 1 Barbel. However despite my friend Mitchell’s pleads to leave because it was pretty cold, we persisted for another 30mins and I had one final bend in the rod from the lily pads. The biggest was saved to last on a robin red pellet. My new personal best at 5lbs 8oz! It’s been a great week, we hope to get back soon!”
(Below)Steve Self caught a beautiful 8lb 6oz Koi and a rare two tone Koi from our famous Koi Lake off the top with bread crust stalking them for hours. Steve also tried a new tactic and fished with a daisy off the top to see if he could catch one on a flower and he did it!!!
