Autumn nights give the chance of a wide range of species with ray, tope, conger, bass and Huss all on the agenda. Shaun Quartly fished a wet and windy night at a popular Ilfracombe mark and caught a small eyed ray of 8lb 10oz.
Kody Chugg has landed a fine tope of 45lb. The specimen was the result of many hours spent in pursuit of a one of the greatest shore challenges for the UK shore angler.. The fish was caught from a North Devon Rock mark.

Late October but summer species are still about. Kevin Kirby sent me this report of smoothound caught from a North Devon shore mark. The hounds scaling 10lb 6oz and 8lb 9oz were tempted using whole squid baits. I have noticed that each autumn the hounds are staying later with some specimens showing light up until Christmas they also seem more inclined to take squid baits at this time of year.
North Devon Match Group fished at Upper Tamar where it proved very tough going for most! very cold and with the wind forecast to blow hard onto the Cornish bank they decided to fish the early pegs on the Devon bank. Paul Elworthy fished an outstanding match winning by a country mile with 29lb 15oz, skimmers on the tip did the trick with corn on the hook, next to Paul, Graham Colman fished the same and ended up with 16lb 8oz, Neilsen Jeffery finished third with mostly perch on the whip weighing 10lb 9 oz and last in the money was Benjamin Woods who weighed in 7lb 10oz on the tip from the goarse bush peg.
Richard Jefferies fished a mark on the Lower Taw & Torridge Estuary and landed a fine bass of 13lb a fish that is undoubtedly the fish of a lifetime.
