2nd Kev Pike bull Huss 13lbs 2 oz

3rd Mike Toogood Tope 32lbs 4 oz

Appledore Shipbuilders set forth in their latest boat competition with a cracking forecast and nice tides.
Weather hadn’t been kind for the boat comps since lockdown ended so everyone was looking forward to getting this one fished. Seven members fished the comp and reports from the boats during the day stated that large catches of pack Tope, many around the 20lb mark were giving everyone great sport.
Scad were also abundant on the small baits making it difficult to fish for other species on the reefs.
One angler reported catching 12 different species from their boat.

OAKTREE CATFISH – Caught

Oaktree Fishery has to my knowledge just the one catfish that gets caught from time to time growing ever larger each time well done to the latest captor ;-
Chris Blythe  caught the Oaktree Wells Catfish  at just over 57lb on a Pop-up Pinky
Fishing on Peg 1 during a 24hr session

The Oaktree catfish was first caught back in the late 90’s and I received this fascinating account of this first capture from Andy Sanders.

I’ve just been reading the article about the oak tree catfish and found this photo for u. I was the first person to catch the catfish way back in the late 90s at a weight of 17lb. I was fishing with friends and had a drop back at 6.30 in the morning. I was yelling to my friends that I’d caught the catfish but neither belived me and would not come out their bivvies. I caught it on a cranberry boilie. Hope this is of interest. Andy.

Fifty pound plus shore tope

posted in: Sea Angling, Sidebar | 0

Tarrant Wotton fished a North Devon Rock mark to tempt a fine tope of 52lb 11oz.  The huge fish was landed with assistance from his good friend Julian Stainer as a heavy swell made conditions difficult. The tope was returned alive after carefully weighing and photographing.

“No words can say when I pulled this bootiful girl out the water, had some epic battles in my time but the swell made her a nightmare to land but quick photos and weighing with me old mate  Julien Stainer made it a pleasure to watch her swim off”
